Andre Gide - Les Faux-Monnayeurs - Edouard Molinier is a writer working on a novel called THE COUNTERFEITERS. In it, a brash young man named Bernard becomes Edouard's secretary. During the course of the book, Bernard and his friend Olivier, pals from college, undergo a psychosexual education: Olivier emerges as a homosexual, and Bernard as a primarily gay man who idolizes women but cannot become involved with them. Unlike Gide's other novels, THE COUNTERFEITERS is not a r?cit but a work that he actually called a novel, and it is widely considered to be his masterpiece. It was inspired by a newspaper story about a ring of counterfeiters that included several children.
